CUSTOM MADE FREE MOTION QUILT NAMED: SUNBURST
In 2012 I was beginning to learn the art of quilting. Luckily my neighbour – Janet, who is a seamstress and a quilter would come over many evenings to show me how to construct a quilt and even how to run a sewing machine. We heard about a three day course that we could take run by Harriet Hargrave. She was coming to Canada to give us courses on quilt making and free motion quilting. So I called up my Mom, and me, Janet and Mom all took the course. We loaded up the sewing machines and off we went. This is the quilt that we started making in that class. Each of us made our own quilt and choose the fabrics. That three day course was the best thing we ever did and this is one of my most favourite quilts. I both constructed the quilt, but also did all the free motion quilting, which I had been practicing for weeks.
I am not afraid to make a bold statement with colour and this quilt is certainly a statement - a play between light and dark fabrics to really emphasize the pattern. The open white areas are filled with a circle of feathers.
I thought this quilt would be a great surprise gift for someone special this Valentines Day.

There are various patterns of free motion quilting on borders. Because of the smaller squares pieces, this quilt had to be cut and sewn with precision. An exact quarter inch seem to sew the pieces together and precisely cut squares made with exacting strips.
