We have absolutely no idea what these were originally intended for, however they are dirt cheap and if you need something to keep your hands moderately warm, they will do the job.
They are thin enough that they are suitable for a driving glove. If needed they could also be pressed into service as a cheap shooting glove. The wool and leather both have light FR properties which means they won't hot glue to your skin and burn you like the synthetic suede found on Mechanix-style gloves.
