"He had power and law on his side; I had a determined will.”  Women have an iron will. They use it to balance multiple roles and, those who are moms, to guide and protect their kids. Today, they're using their will to denounce injustices and be an active part of the narrative, just as Harriet Jacobs did more than 150 years ago.
