Description:

Anyone new to the science of hadith may be overawed by its sheer volume and complexity. Tahdhib al-Akhlaq: A Hadith Guide for Personal and Social Conduct is a gentle introduction that takes over 500 Ahadith from the six authentic collections, predominantly from Bukhari and Muslim, and arranges them into an easily understood and accessible subject matter.

It covers over 45 short chapters such as sincerity in worship, maintaining ties of kinship, teaching children, thankfulness, modesty etc. It focuses on morality and manners; and in this way it serves as an excellent foundation not only for further study of the great works of hadith, but also as a guide to the Islamic way of life - thus reviving the importance of Islamic moral conduct in the English Language.

Its unique style of inter-twining each subject matter with the appropriate verses of the Qur'an at the beginning of each chapter followed by carefully selected hadiths makes it fascinating to read - a truly scholarly work made accessible to the general reader.

Sayyed 'Abdu'l-Hayy al-Hasani (1286-1341 AH/1869-1923CE) was one of the most prominent Islamic scholars of his time who contributed substantially to the academic history of Muslim India. In 1915, he was appointed Rector of Darul 'Uloom Nadwatul-'Ulama' Lucknow where he continued to serve until he breathed his last in 1923. He was renowned for his immense love of hadith, and was distinguished in this science among his contemporaries.

He authored many books in Arabic and Urdu. His magnum opus being Nuzhatul-Khawatir, an eight volume biographical work compiled in Arabic of some 4500 prominent figures among Indian Muslims, providing detailed information about them and the contributions they have made in different fields of knowledge. Other prestigious Arabic works of his include Al-Thaqafah al-Islamiah fi'l-Hind on the Islamic education system that prevailed in India for centuries, and Al-Hind fi'l-'Ahd al-Islami on the Islamic contribution to India in the fields of geography, history, culture, politics and India's overall development.
