During the later days of WWII German tank production was hap-hazzard at best. Many of the new Tiger II tanks were lucky if they even got their base coat of armor yellow. Many entered the fray simply painted in their rust red primer coat. It was also determined that the Zimmerit anti-magnetic paste required too much time to apply effectively thereby lengthening the manufacturing process by several additional days. This was unacceptable during the critical need for tanks at the front.
