Once upon a time I rented a place with Captain Ahab. Not really conducive to relaxation; but an interesting experience, and the place had a big plus: a balcony overlooking the Danube and the green hills of Austria. I missed the sea; but the river plus a sea of green was like the ocean. I left my copy of Moby Dick out on the balcony for about 12 months, reading a page or two here and there – it seemed right that the book should stay out in the weather.
Now the pages are all yellowed and dried. Need another copy.
